Parks & Recreation
The Mission of the Avery County Parks and Recreation Department is to help improve the quality of life for our citizens by providing low or no cost leisure and fitness related services through safe and attractive facilities. It is the Department’s goal to offer diversified active and passive recreational programs that meet the needs and requests of our population.
The Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for planning and implementing youth and adult sports and activities, recreational programs for senior citizens, as well as maintaining athletic facilities and public parks, and the public swimming pool complex.
Youth athletic programs include football, basketball, and cheerleading.
Athletic programs for adults include adult league softball.
We also have pickle ball on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am till 12:00pm. This is an open drop in league type event.
Athletic programs are open to those who reside in Avery County. Signup deadlines are established for each program. Details for registrations and forms are available through the County Recreation Office in Newland. Contact the Recreation Office directly for complete information on programs and registration deadlines.
Registration is open for football and cheerleading. Please come by rock gym to pick up forms.
