Lauren Sutter

Lauren is a born and raised daughter of the Mid-Michigan community who has dreamed of being a lawyer since age 5. She attended Central Michigan University, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Philosophy with minors in Legal Studies and Ethics, Values & Society, as well as a certification in Creative Writing with a concentration in Poetry. From there, she attended Michigan State University College of Law, where she spent her first year taking a criminal law-specific writing course and co-founding a law-themed musical theatre group. She soon joined the Native American Law Student Association and was accepted into the Geoffrey Feiger Trial Practice Institute for her second and third year, a selective and intensive course in courtroom procedures and conduct and which awards graduates with a Certification in Litigation. She left law school with this certification and her J.D. as well as a Jurisprudence Award in Domestic Violence.

Lauren has always been passionate about criminal defense and formally started on this path during an internship with the Washtenaw County Public Defender’s Office. Since graduating from law school in May 2019, Lauren has worked as a researcher doing conversation analysis and coding on voir dire for death penalty eligible cases in North Carolina and has also worked as an independent contract attorney with the Muskegon County Office of the Public Defender. She is delighted to return to familiar and homey stomping grounds in Lansing to continue working on what she loves best, indigent defense.

When not lawyering, Lauren enjoys spending time with friends and family, golfing, playing the trombone, crocheting, and trying to convince her very grumpy, elderly cat to be friends.
