Mr. Silverthorn received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and his Juris Doctorate from Thomas M. Cooley School of Law in Lansing. He had been in private practice for 35 years before joining the Ingham County Office of Public Defender. During those years he represented hundreds of individuals charged with crimes, both misdemeanors and felonies, specializing in defending persons charged with serious life offense felonies.He has gotten acquittals for: Open Murder, CSC, Armed Robbery, Assaultive offenses, Home Invasion, Malicious Destruction of Property, Drug offenses, OUI, Domestic Violence and many other criminal offenses. Additionally, he handled many general civil litigation matters including domestic relations cases, juvenile court matters, administrative law hearings and estate planning. He is particularly proud that he has almost exclusively represented individuals, not businesses or corporations. He is a longstanding member of the Criminal Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and a member of the Ingham County Bar Association. He and his wife have seven children and three grandchildren.
