The responsibility of the Sevier County Road Department is the safety of the traveling public. This means that the department is responsible for the maintenance and improvement of all roads, bridges, road signs, and cattle guards that are under the jurisdiction of Sevier County. In all, the department maintains more than 700 miles of Class B roads (paved, gravel, and dirt roads). The Road Department is constantly improving the road system depending on available monies.
Rights of Way Regulations
The Board of Sevier County Commissioners adopted Ordinance 2006-11-1 regulating roadway rights of way encroachment on November 15, 1999. This ordinance makes it against the law to disturb county roads and rights of way without permission from the road supervisor through a permit process in Sevier County. This saves repairs to county roads and, in turn, saves the taxpayer money.
